UK power firms stop taking new customers amid escalating crisis

In a dramatic escalation of the country’s energy crisis, the British government held an emergency meeting with small power suppliers on Tuesday. By the late afternoon Igloo, Green, Ampower, Utilita and NEO Energy updated websites saying they were closed to new business. Several of the companies’ rivals have already gone out of business this year as natural gas and power prices surged to record highs, and there’s a growing risk that more energy retailers will become insolvent in the coming months...
