Roundtable, Friday 26 March

The Centre’s Annual Roundtable is the once-a-year opportunity for the function’s most senior practitioners to join peers in the profession to flag and discuss how its most senior executives are managing disruption, talent, socio-political change, interaction with other management functions, business as usual, and themselves.

As the world begins to adapt to living with COVID-19 and its impacts, this Roundtable will be an especially valuable opportunity to connect with peers about the future of the corporate public affairs function.

The Roundtable is the Forum also to flag and discuss innovation and trends and developments in the function in Australia and New Zealand, and globally.

Heads of Function and senior practitioners are encouraged to participate in the Roundtable to connect with peers, share insights about where the corporate public affairs management function is heading, and understand how other organisations and heads of function are managing their public affairs teams.

Most sessions start with an address or presentation on a prescient issue by an industry leader or commentator, followed by an examination of that issue through dialogue, in an active roundtable setting with full peer-to-peer participation.

Roundtable discussions will focus on:

  • State of the Corporate Public Affairs function 2021, including the impact of the pandemic on the function and its management
  • News media disruption: what is the future of quality business journalism in Australia?
  • What Boards want from the corporate public affairs management function
  • China, India, trade, and Australian prosperity - choices and opportunities
  • Politics, policy priorities, personalities - what's in store for 2021-2022?

Discussion leaders include:

  • Jane Anderson, Executive General Manager Corporate Affairs, Insurance Australia Group
  • John Durie, Senior Business Commentator, The Australian
  • Jacqueline Maley, The Sydney Morning Herald/The Age
  • Sam Mostyn AO, Chair - Citi Australia, independent company director
  • Tim Salathiel, Head of Group Communications -Corporate Affairs, Transurban
  • John Stanley, Broadcaster, 2GB
  • Professor Hugh White AO, College of Asia and the Pacific, Australian National University

Proceedings are conducted under the Chatham House Rule, and participation in the Roundtable on 26 March is restricted to senior practitioners to enable full and frank discussions among peers about managing the function, including challenges, mishaps, successes and failures.

This will be a strictly limited places offering - early registrations are strongly encouraged.
