Planning and reporting remain among the vexed and challenging management challenges in corporate public affairs. Many practitioners and teams wrestle with strategy, planning to deliver strategy, and reporting, both as a means to understand progress, as well as to capture and report the value generated by the function. As well, public affairs teams are under pressure to better measure and report the value they create as a management function.

The module is ideal for mid-level to senior practitioners who are involved in developing strategy, planning, and reporting, and for practitioners who want to better understand these management disciplines.

Graduates of this module will benefit from being exposed to the management value of developing and agreeing with senior management a practical approach to developing corporate public affairs strategy, as well as contributing to the broader strategy of the organisation.

Delivered by the Centre's Executive Director Wayne Burns and Guest Faculty Liz McNamara - Former Head of Function at AGL, Coca-Cola Amatil, BHP Coal, and Bernadette Murdoch - Global Head, Reputation & Brand, Rio Tinto, the module will feature:

  • best practice approaches to developing corporate public affairs strategy;
  • aligning corporate affairs strategy to broader organisational strategy;
  • developing and sticking to a planning cycle and process that works for your team;
  • slaying the measurement dragon – best practice in public affairs measurement;
  • how to agree what to measure and report to understand progress;
  • best practice approaches to measuring progress and understanding value;
  • case studies on good and best practice strategy development, planning and reporting;
  •  insights from Faculty and Guest Faculty on engaging senior managers, business partners, and team members with strategy and reporting;
  • insights from peer-to-peer discussions and learning.

This is an accredited Centre for Corporate Public Affairs module, which upon completion earns the practitioner five professional development credit points, and certification that the module has been completed.

This module is offered every three years.
